The Proposal

December 4, 2021

We were excited to enjoy a weekend trip to visit our longtime friends, Bradley and Kathryn Grimshaw, at their home in New Hampshire. We all traveled to North Conway to do some shopping and sightseeing. Unbeknownst to Kerry, this was a cover for the real activity to come. Just a short ride away in the town of Jackson lies Nestlenook Farm, where Patrick had scheduled a one horse open sleigh ride with champagne through the snow. Just after dusk, the couples embarked onto their sleigh, pulled by Chip the horse, and traveled through the farm, alive with Christmas lights and lantern displays throughout. Near the end of the ride, Chip had stopped the sleigh on a bridge that overlooked the farm and the frozen pond below. It was here, in this magical place, that Patrick and Kerry stepped onto the bridge to take in the beautiful scene. Patrick took both of her hands, and he produced a small box that had been burning a hole in his pocket all day. He dropped to one knee and opened the box, revealing the engagement ring inside. He asked "Kerry will you marry me?", to which he was met with a wide smile and an enthusiastic reply of "Yes!". The pair embraced and shared a kiss as they were cheered on by onlookers. Pat gave a quick fist pump and a "WOOO!" back to the onlookers, prompting Kerry to place her hand on his chest and quietly say "The ponies, you're going to scare the ponies!" The couple mounted their sleigh again to finish the ride with their friends, just as it had begun to snow, rounding out a truly unforgettable night. On their way out of the farm, the group stopped for a quick photo op to memorialize the night at covered bridge number 51, known to the locals as "The Honeymoon Bridge". Couples would come from miles around to sneak a kiss under the bridge for good luck in their relationship.
