Preston and I met through our friends. I was Preston's blind date to a wedding in which he was the best man. If you ask Preston he'll tell you it was his best man speech that won my heart. Following the wedding, Preston and I continued to stay in contact while he was in Grand Forks, ND and I was finishing school in Mankato, MN. He eventually asked if I would go to his holiday work party in Fargo, ND. I agreed, it was here that I dropped a bomb on him, letting him know I would be completing my student teaching in Houston, Texas. I would be gone for 4 months. While I was away in Texas, Preston and I continues to talk frequently. I believe being Texas helped us establish a strong friendship and understanding of each other. When I return back from Texas, Preston and I went on our third "first" date. A date that admittedly could've gone better but we stuck it out because we knew what we had was more than a bad dinner experience.

It was the weekend of the 4th of July. Preston and I were in Detroit Lakes planning to relax at the lake with family and friends but before we could both relax, I had decided I would run a virtual marathon in the early morning of July 3rd. The plan was for Preston to drop me off where I had planned to start and he would be at different locations on the route with water and motivation. Little did I know he was headed back to my parent's place to ask for permission to propose! After, finishing the marathon and hanging out with friends for the afternoon we headed back to my parent's place for the evening. Preston mentioned he wanted to go fishing later, I agreed but as the day wore on I was getting sorer and sorer, all I wanted was to go to bed. However, Preston was persistent with wanting to go fishing so I begrudgingly agreed. It was on the dock, where Preston got down on one knee and asked me to marry him with my family watching from the deck. Of course, I said, "YES! "
