In the beginning months of 2023, Jess was anxiously awaiting the cold weather to turn and specifically, was looking forward to Easter weekend to spend time with family and see her sisters who live out of state. Jess’s sisters ended up telling her they would not be flying home for Easter and that they would see her for the 4th of July...she was instantly bummed. Fast forward to the Saturday before Easter, Ben and Jess had a full itinerary in place to visit family, run errands, and end the day with a date night Ben planned. Unbeknownst to Jess, this date night was one that had been in the works for months… In fact, Ben had been planning with both families starting in late December/early January to surprise Jess. Part of his plan included both of Jess’s sisters telling her that they “wouldn’t be home for Easter”. The date night started off with a nice dinner on the East side of Cleveland, near Ben’s alma mater, John Carroll University. After dinner, Ben said he wanted to walk off the calories and see the sunset at one of their favorite spots, the Solstice Steps at Lakewood Park. Jess was not too keen on going to Lakewood Park that evening as it was still -chilly- temperatures in Cleveland. Ben was adamant about going as it was part of the date night he planned, and they would only be there a short while, see the sunset and be on their way back home. Jess didn’t think much of it as they go on walks/bike rides frequently at Lakewood Park. They began walking down the lower-level trail leading up to the Solstice Steps and as they approached the seating area, Ben pointed towards the steps and said, “Pick out a spot to sit so we can watch the sunset”. When Jess looked up, she noticed that the seating area was empty outside of a group of people sitting all together in one row. Jess had to do a double take as she realized it was her family, including her sisters who "were not going to be in town", along with Ben's entire family who drove in from Buffalo. Jess was speechless as it was truly a surprise! By the time she turned back around to face Ben, he was down on one knee and asked for her hand in marriage.
