While Peter was visiting his grandpa in Florida, he decided to message Emily on Hinge. After Peter incorporated Emily's profile emojis of coffee + dogs (a key to her heart) as his pick up line, Emily knew she had to meet Peter in person. Their first date was in August 2016 at Fat Cat in the West Village and consisted of ping pong, shuffleboard, live music, and a game of three truths and a lie (that's when Emily learned that Peter had been to 46 DMB concerts). Although Emily lost the bet in ping pong, she won herself four more dates with Peter...and a lifetime together.
It was July 2, 2021, Emily's birthday, and Emily and Peter were spending the birthday and holiday weekend in Malibu as they've done every year together. The day was supposed to be low key and casual -- going for a run, hanging out on the beach, and enjoying Shabbat dinner with the Rosen family. If only Emily knew how the day would actually turn out... While hanging out on the beach and listening to music, Peter asked Emily what she wanted out of her 28th year. They talked about some exciting life events -- their new apartment, her new job, their new neighborhood. And he said, "what about planning a wedding?!” Emily immediately started crying and Peter asked Emily if she'd marry him. They then walked back to the house to tell Emily's family in person and facetime Peter's family, but the facetime was not necessary. The living room was filled with the Rosen (+ Kahan) and Eiseman families for a weekend of celebrating and bonding.
