A Mehndi Party is a pre-wedding celebration in Hindustani culture; during this event, the bride has a red-orange mehndi dye applied to her palms, the back of her hands, and her feet. This is a very vibrant event. Attendees traditionally wear red, yellow, or green Indian clothing to this event. There will be Indian food, music, and entertainment at this traditional fete.

Question

What is a Nikah Ceremony?

Answer

The Nikah is the Islamic marriage ceremony whereby the Muslim couple legitimizes their marriage in the eyes of God by signing the marriage contract in the presence of an imam and at least 2 witnesses. The Nikah Ceremony is a time of immense happiness as a couple celebrates their marital covenant with friends and family.

Question

What Should I Wear?

Answer

For the Mehndi Party, we recommend that attendees wear colorful (red, yellow, or green) traditional Indian or American attire. Men's Indian clothing typically worn at a Mehndi includes a kurta pajama or Nehru jacket. American clothing appropriate for a Mehndi includes a vibrant dress shirt and dress pants, with a suit jacket and tie being optional. It is recommended that women attend the Mehndi Party in colorful Indian clothing, such as kurta pajamas, lehengas, shalwar kameez, or sarees. Vibrant American dresses are also appropriate for this festive occasion. The Nikah is a religious marital ceremony that involves attendees wearing traditional wedding apparel. Male attendees typically wear formal Indian clothing such as sherwanis or kurta pajamas. American clothing appropriate for a Nikah consists of a suit with a tie. Women attending the ceremony typically wear kurta pajamas, lehengas, shalwar kameez, or sarees. Acceptable American clothing includes formal dresses or jumpsuits. We kindly request that all attendees dress in observance of this wedding being an Islamic ceremony.
