So Jason and I had been going to school together since elementary school. We had some of the same classes and home room through middle school, but we never really spoke much. After our freshman year of high school, we had some mutual friends and ended up hanging out one day. The first time we hung out with our group of friends, Jason barely spoke two words to me. I told my best friend, Kelsee, that I just wasn’t interested in him. He barely spoke to me so why would I think a second hang out would be a good idea? One day after school and softball practice, I went to Applebees with Kelsee and her then boyfriend. Jason showed up and sat down to eat with us. He was a completely different person that day. He actually opened up and talked to me. The whole dinner he kept me laughing. We talked for a few weeks after that and he asked me to be his girlfriend on August 14, 2009. There has been good times and bad times throughout our 10 years being together, but we’ve always worked our way through it. He’s my best friend and I am so blessed God had me in mind when he made Jason.
Jason and I had a beach trip planned for Panama City the last week of July. I joked with Jason saying I bet he would propose during our trip because he knew the beach was my favorite place to be. He talked me in circles and denied that it would happen while there. We got to the beach at night and settled in. The next day we enjoyed a full day on the beach. Jason had asked if he could look up some places to eat and surprise me. The mountains is his favorite vacation spot so he didn’t know all the restaurants like I did. I was excited to see what Jason would find for us for dinner. As we were getting ready for dinner, I jokingly told him “if you plan on proposing it better be tonight because this is the nicest dress I brought.” Again, had no idea he planned on proposing and especially that night. We got to The Shrimp Boat and ordered our dinner. He made many trips to the bathroom. Oblivious to his nerves, I didn’t think anything about it. Come to find out he was messaging my mother about how nervous he was. After dinner, he suggests we walk to their pier outside the restaurant because the scenery was so beautiful. Well then he suggested we walk a little further out. So now I’m thinking something is up. He tells me he is going to facetime his mom so she can see how beautiful it was out there. He insisted that I call my mom too. So I did and my mom was not interested in the view I was trying to share with her. A little confused why she was acting not interested, I hear Jason talking to his mom saying “yeah it is beautiful out here, but check this view out mom... Paige.” When I turned around, he was down on one knee. I remember thinking, “oh my goodness. I was right. This is happening.” I of course said yes and was so thankful he had our parents on facetime to experience it with us. I now knew why my mom wasn’t interested in the view. She was waiting for the real reason of that phone call. I called everyone I knew to tell them the news. A day I truly will never forget.
