Picture it: it's May 2018. Pete Davidson and Ariana Grande have just started dating. Beyonce wowed everyone at Coachella. We are all still a little weirded out from the false emergency alert sent to Hawaii a few months back. All of this is happening, and Laura and Elliot still don't know the other exists. In the midst of contemplating the Tide Pod Challenge, Laura gets a notification from Hinge that someone named Elliot has responded to one of her prompts. He asks her about the comedians she likes, she replies and asks him about his favorite Disney songs. He is disappointed to learn she has never seen Hercules. The conversation flows. He finds himself texting her about important work meetings, she finds herself laughing alone in her room at his jokes. They decide it's time to set up a date.
Once Laura and Elliot decided that it was time to go on a date, they hatch up the perfect plan. Laura's parents are out of town and she's house-sitting. The plan is that Elliot will come over and they can go for a walk on Laura's home turf, you know, for safety. Everyone's excited. Elliot gets there and Laura's first thought is, "Oh no. He's out of my league." She gives herself a little internal pep talk and they start walking. On the walk, Laura is nervous. She doesn't know what to say or how to act, and Elliot notices. He's thinking, "Did she really just ask me how I'd feel if I had an ugly baby?" Laura's panicking. It's not going well. They walk around the neighborhood in an awkward back and forth, but eventually make it back to Laura's parents' house. It's there that Laura starts to redeem herself. The person that Elliot had been talking to finally begins to show herself and he's feeling more confident in his decision to go on this date. The date is sealed with a kiss, and the terrifying sounds of a coyote finding his dinner. It must have gone well, because Elliot came over the next day too. And the day after that, and the day after that, and the day after that, and the day after that...
