We met while studying abroad in Northern Ireland our sophomore year. Despite attending a school with 1,200 undergrads - where if you didn't know someone, you at least knew someone who did - we had never heard of each other before. It wasn't until part of the study abroad group met up in the Charlotte airport to catch our connecting flight to Dublin that we first really noticed each other. She was trying to take a nap leaning against a potted plant; meanwhile, he was entertaining the others with tales of summer exploits. It wasn't exactly love at first sight. Within a few weeks of the trip, however, we had both caught the other's eye. Fast forward a year and a half past several awkward coffee dates, a few false starts, other relationships, and a lot of shared Calvin and Hobbes comics, and we finally got together. Of course, it was only natural that that was when a global pandemic would hit. After a month of dating we went long-distance, but despite all of the trouble it took to start a relationship and the separation we had to maintain for the beginning months, we both realized early on it was a relationship worth pursuing. Looking back at how it all started we have to laugh at how hard we made things for ourselves, but after sorting it out, falling in love was the easiest part of all.
