Katy and Matt met in passing in a dorm hall their freshman year of college at the University of Dallas in 2015. They continued to run in different circles - Matt was a Physics major, while Katy was a Politics major, so they never had any classes together. Freshman year came and went, and both Katy and Matt were accepted into the Rome Program at UD. They (and many of their current friends now) studied abroad in Rome during the fall of 2016, adventuring in many different countries across Europe. One weekend, Katy and Matt traveled in separate groups to Amsterdam. After exploring the city a bit, the groups met at an Airbnb to have dinner and drink wine. After dinner, Katy and Matt hung out on the balcony of that Airbnb, talking and laughing for hours. For the rest of the trip, Katy and Matt got to know each other and became more than just a passing face on campus. When they got back to Rome that weekend, they continued to hang around each other. When they returned to Dallas from Rome the next semester, Katy knew she had a crush on Matt. Matt had moved in with one of her good friends Will, and now had an excellent excuse to see Matt whenever she visited Will. Matt and Katy would usually end up playing video games on the couch together, laughing at each others jokes. Matt had also realized his crush - and after a lot of flirting, and wondering whether the other felt the same, they went on their first date on February 16th in 2017. Katy and Matt continued to go on many dates after that. While they were boyfriend and girlfriend, they were also best friends. Matt brought Katy to St. Louis, and Katy brought Matt to Colorado Springs, both introducing them to each other's families and homes. They grew together and supported each other, through graduation, and their careers. After 5 years of dating, Matt took Katy out to dinner at one of their favorite Italians spots in Irving for her birthday. They went for a walk afterwards along the canals behind the restaurant. In the middle of the walk, Matt got down on one knee, and asked Katy if she would spend forever with him. Katy said yes, and it was the easiest decision she ever made.
