Our Story

God Only Knows

A Beatles fan from Antibes, France and a Rolling Stones fan from Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, brought together by fate in Pittsburgh, PA. Both would become Resident Assistants, but would never have met without the help of an expert matchmaker. Daniel J. Watt noticed that Christian had a crush on Nina, the mysterious French RA whom he had never talked to. Daniel set up a blind date between the two. Nina agreed to the traditional terms of the blind date agreement. Christian agreed to the terms, as long as he could know exactly who he was going on the date with. A blind date for Nina, a very much less blind date for Christian. Waiting for Nina at the location of the first date, Christian practiced français under his breath, not knowing that Nina spoke English flawlessly. As a gifted wingman, Daniel knew how well this pairing would work. From the first date to the marriage ceremony, Daniel proved to be a mentor and a best friend to both, always investing in the heart and health of the relationship. Nina and Christian, in many ways, are polar opposites. She craves structure, thrives on responsibility, and notices all the little details of everything. Christian on the other hand navigates life through chaos, lives in his daydreams, and occasionally notices major life changes. They were connected on a soul level through their love of art, all things beautiful, and by their compassion for fellow human beings and animals. They are responsible and devoted caretakers of their three cats and puppy and cherish the friends and family in their lives dearly. Through loss and unexpected life changes, Nina and Christian have learned to always try to lift each other up and invest deeply in one another's happiness. They are excited to continue to grow in this direction for the rest of their life together and are ecstatic to join with the most important people in their lives in the ceremony, at the table, and on the dance floor. Vows to witness, bread to break, and dances to dance. God only knows how grateful we are for the context which led us all to this moment, with you all.

Our Proposal

Things never go to plan

Christian is not a planner. It's just not in him. The proposal was the first moment he had a chance to prove to Nina that he could embrace this role that he was so unfamiliar with. With the help of Jeremy, his parents, Daniel, and Leah, Christian picked out a ring, lied to Nina about going to work (he felt this might be his only morally OK occasion to lie in their relationship and boy did he have fun), drove to Philly through a snowstorm, and picked out her diamond. In the height of COVID, Christian didn't have the opportunity to ask for her parents' blessing in person, but they will all remember that FaceTime forever. With the parents' blessing, he came up with an elaborate plan to sneak her whole family from Pittsburgh to Kennett for a surprise proposal with his and her family present. He did not know that Nina had this all figured out in her head, or that a COVID scare the day before the proposal would prevent her family from making it. Christian did what Christian does best: he improvised. He drove Nina to their newly purchased but as of yet unoccupied home to move the trash bins. As the sun was setting over their new backyard, Christian reached into his back pocket and brought out the ring box. Nina, with mind on more practical matters, asked Christian a question about the integrity of the septic system. "Can you ask your parents if it is normal for the septic--" "Hey, can we just wait a sec for that?" "Can you just text them real quick to make sure--" "Nina, I have something I want to ask you." "Wait, what?" And that's how Christian proposed to Nina, just the two of them, in their new backyard as she asked about the septic system.
