We met as coworkers at the Milwaukee Pedal Tavern, secretly having crushes on one another, both too shy to say anything. Joel would go to all of Nikki's dinner parties, sometimes the only guy in attendance there. Becoming friends over time, and then soon after, the courting ritual of sending cat videos to each other began... After a couple years of girl parties and cat videos, we had our first official date, and the rest is history. "You guys should get married!" yeah! we should!
Our Bay View apartment was delightfully situated right next to the best park, Humboldt Park, where we would take our walks and hang out when we weren't cooking or working. One November Saturday we went for a walk to our favorite spot. Nikki wanted to head back because it was too cold and gloomy, but Joel with ring in hand and absolutely no patience for being non-engaged any longer, insisted onward. Heading straight to our beloved spot, no time was wasted but a brief look of admiration and love. Joel dropped to a knee, fumbled for the ring box and asked Nikki for her hand in marriage. She said "Oh my god, YES!" , *big smooch* and then walked back to the apartment while Joel played "The Time of My Life" by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes. The day was no longer cold and gloomy but warm and filled with love.
