Most of you know the stories of how Milan and I individually rejected every dating prospect that our parents threw our way, but one random afternoon in November of 2018, my mum sent me a text. It was a picture of Milan and all it said was, “he’s 6’3” tall, interested?” I immediately said, “finally, someone cute!” Our information was exchanged but these processes take too long and I was curious so naturally I facebook stalked him and decided to cut out the middle men and just sent him a message. We began talking from there for a couple of days and then all of a sudden MILAN stopped texting me. Months went on and I ended up in Miami for my sisters birthday and felt the need to call Milan out of the blue. I’m so glad I did because we ended up speaking until 5am, I watched the sun rise while I drunkenly told this guy my life story. We ended up speaking for a month or so before MILAN stopped texting AGAIN...at this point I gave up. About 2 weeks later, my family and I went to Amarillo to visit some family and my parents and Milan’s aunt decided to get us to meet in person. It was a little awkward at first because I wasnt sure about him but we ended up going out for dinner and drinks. We talked for hours and then he took me to the canyon to meetup with my family. As we waited for them to meet us, we talked some more and then he decided to lean in for the kiss and at that exact moment fireworks started going off...it wasnt planned at all but it could have been the most romantic moment ever had I not started hysterically laughing. It was such a cliche moment but I wouldn’t trade it for the world! The rest is history...I fell in love with my best friend after 6 months of meeting him and I can’t wait to marry him!
We had planned on going to Breckinridge for my 30th Birthday and our one year dating anniversary so with the help of her sisters I decided it was the perfect time to pop the question! When Niki woke up, she told me that she had a dream that I proposed to her. I said, “One day, lets enjoy dating for a while longer.” I was so stressed out because the weather forecast predicted it to rain all day and I had planned to propose to her outside! We started the day off hiking and then I tried to recreate our first date by taking her to similar places. Dinner was at a sushi place in downtown Breckinridge to celebrate our anniversary. Halfway through dinner I looked out the window and saw the rain start to pour down. I kept getting up from dinner saying I had to go to the bathroom but I was frantically texting the photographer to see if we could think of a contingency plan. I really wanted to have this moment captured for us so I waited patiently hoping it would clear up just enough for us to head to THE SPOT. Miraculously, it stopped raining so I told Niki we were going somewhere to take in the scenery. She loves the outdoors and nature so I knew she’d go for it! When we got there, I walked her towards the edge of the lake and as she started taking a panoramic picture I said, “It’s funny that you had a dream of me proposing to you.” She dropped the phone and just started smiling. I went on to say, “I have never felt this much love for anyone and you make me feel like the happiest man in the world.” I dropped to one knee and asked her to MARRY ME! She didn’t respond immediately because of all the tears and laughter…I had to ask her if that was a “YES” and it sure was! It was one of the most memorable moments in our lives together and the best 30th Birthday gift I could have ever asked for!
