To say 2020 isn't turning out as we anticipated is an understatement! We appreciate our loved ones bearing with us as we have struggled to figure out how best to proceed with what we are sure is STILL eventually going to be one of the most special days of our lives. The uncertainty of this pandemic has made it very difficult to determine when it will be safe to travel, gather and celebrate together again. For now, we have decided to postpone to a date to be determined in 2021. We sincerely hope that life returns to normal as soon as possible. As we get closer to that milestone, we will keep everyone posted on our new wedding date and celebration plans. In the meantime, we hope you are all safe and healthy. If this experience has reminded us of anything, it is to hold our loved ones tighter and appreciate the blessings we have today. And we count all of you among our blessings! Much love-- N & T
Nicole was on vacation for the second time in Barbados. One of the places that she loved most on her first trip to the island was the Friday Fish Fry at Oistens, a lively outdoor beach venue complete with fish vendors, live music and cocktails. It was literally the only place she wanted to make sure to visit on her second trip. Unbeknownst to her at the time, it would be the backdrop for a meeting that would change her life. After filling up on fish and rum punch, Nicole was casually introduced to Thomas, a tall man with kind eyes and the cutest smile she had ever seen who just happened to be home from Scotland visiting his family. A night of dancing, more rum punch and one of the longest laughing fits either of us had ever had with anyone else ensued. We came to find that what we both felt that night was what we can only describe as a cosmic connection--we were truly meant to meet there, that night, in that moment, under those Barbados stars. Two years and some change later, we are planning our wedding in Scotland, the place where Thomas spent his primary school years as well as his entire adult life. We still dance often (even if it's only in the house and always, ALWAYS when a Missy Elliot song comes on), can make each other erupt in laughter and regularly recount the moment of our meeting (with each of us insisting that we retell the story more accurately than the other).
One thing is for sure...nobody can say Thomas half-steps! On a trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, Thomas planned a beach day for the couple. The Aztec gods couldn't have set the stage better--a private cabana on the beach, perfect sunny weather, passion fruit margaritas flowing. Suddenly, Nicole hears people on the beach cheering loudly and clapping and she notices everyone pointing to the sky....where a parasailer is gliding across the shore carrying a sign asking "Nicole, will you marry me?". Cue the parasailer landing right in front of their cabana, an entire conjunto band coming out of nowhere and Thomas down on bended knee. It was the perfect exclamation point to our journey thus far.
