In August 2019, Nick left his home in Missouri and accepted a travel contract in the ICU at Lutheran Medical Center in Colorado. At the time, I had been working in the ICU for a few months and was living above a taco shop with my dog, Dixon. As most of you know, Nick doesn't struggle making friends and he quickly found a spot in the same group of work friends I had. Nick was, and always will be, my favorite co-worker. He had loads more experience than I did so he was a great resource when I had really sick patients and he was always offering to help turn my patients and cosign heparin drips (my hero). The first night Nick and I were in the same pod, we talked about all the fun things to do in Colorado and debated the proper name for a Water Worm (it's Wiggle Worm)…the incredibly phallic children's toy. Soon, breakfast tacos and margs at the taco shop downstairs became a routine the morning after a long night shift. Once we discovered our mutual weirdness and Nick met my sweet boy, Dixon, we quickly became best friends and I was the third wheel to Nick and Dixons love story. The pandemic hit a few months later and with normal dating spots shut down during quarantine, we decided to explore my beautiful home state. We took countless day trips up to the mountains where Nick and Dixon fell in love and somewhere along the way, we did too.
