The Whole Shebang

November 7, 2013

Glen and Sara met freshmen year of college at NYU Poly in Brooklyn, NY in the fall of 2012. Through mutual friends and keeping Sara from drowning in Python 101, they started spending more time together. Fast forward to their sophomore year fraternity Halloween party, Sara was dressed like a cat (classic college attire) and Glen was done up as The Joker. He stole her upstairs to "redo" their costume makeup -- where she denied his attempt at a first kiss. Didn't he know it would smoosh their makeup!? Glen took that as "Sara isn't interest- PERIOD" instead of "Sara worked hard on these whiskers and doesn't want to smudge them", so he did what all rejected college boys would do and sulked for the rest of the evening. Fast forward a few nights and they are in Sara's dorm room 5 floors below his, making dinner. He finally had the courage to as her out -- but she was skeptical. What did he really want? Was this just a hook up? She asked him point blank what his intentions were. Well? He said "The Whole Shebang". All of it. The dates. The bad times. The good times. The arguments. He wanted it all. "ALL" was a lot. Was "the whole shebang" more than she wanted? Marrying him flashed in her mind for a moment. Just a moment. They were 19 after all, and marriage was so far down the line....and well... let's just brush that thought away. 10 Years Later --- Glen is still standing in front of Sara asking for The Whole Shebang.

"Words"

AKA Their First Kiss

They've been flirting for weeks now. Stolen glances in class and the cafeteria. Laying on the floor of the Common Room staring at the ceiling talking for hours. Tensions rise. Sara and Glen sit in his dorm room on the precipice of THAT moment -- the first kiss. He leans in, her breath hitches, the world fades away. The Electrical Engineer produced a spark! He's barely breathing when he pulls away, staring into her soul. Ryan Gosling couldn't direct a better first kiss than this! She bites her bottom lip, tasting what remains of him. He knew he had to say something! The air was static and the silence electric. Quick, think of something to say! "Words", was all he managed. You heard him, he said "Words" -- he knew he should say something but couldn't think of anything -- his future wife blushing in front of him. Stolen breath and stolen brain cells left him saying "words".

The Engagement

About Damn Time

Glen planned a date. Sara would come home from work about 3 p.m., and everything needed to be in place. He got a haircut and a beard trim, then went to buy a camera and made a few phone calls. When she got home, he took her shopping. He picked out a new outfit for both of them and paid. Snow was expected, and we wanted to drink at dinner, so we parked the car and took an Uber. We arrived at Woods Hill Pier 4 in Seaport. So fancy! Dinner is delectable... but /someone/ not naming names... is on their phone..... Glen wants to go for a stroll on the pier, but it's just started to snow, and it's COLD. Also, Sara is in heels. "Come on, I want to go look at the water," Glen says. "I can see the water just fine right here," Sara retorts, as we all know she's NOT WALKING down the pier in these heels. Glen is annoyed. Valid. He gives in trying to get Sara into position, so he makes the call and gets down on his knee. "Oh shit oh shit oh shit it's happening, oh shit he's speaking. holy crap it's happening ahhhhhhhhh" - Sara's Internal Monologue What did he actually say? Lost to the wind and the snow. She probably said yes. There were lights flashing. A cameraman? ____ Glen orchestrated Sara's brother Jesse to come hide on the pier to take pictures, but this was supposed to occur at the END of the pier. Jesse looks over to see Glen, not in position, but already down on his knee and SPRINTS to get the shot. The once-in-a-lifetime shot of his sister getting engaged. He nearly slipped on the pier and reacted so quickly he left his phone on the bench. ___ Turns out we needed to walk to the end of the pier to retrieve Jesse's phone anyway. And Glen texting during dinner? That was Jesse getting locked out of the apartment, and they needed to contact the landlord to let him in for this covert mission. ____ Lesson: Sara isn't going to do what she's told and will probably ruin her own proposal.
