Black Tie / Traditional Indian Attire recommended.

Please arrive at Jnane Tamsna by 4pm. The Wedding consists of a series of ceremonies and rituals, starting with the Baraat and ending with a Vidaai at the end of the evening, when the family bids farewell to the daughter. Various events such as the Baraat and the Milni occur in the courtyard outside, before entering the Mandap. The main ceremonies are performed in the Mandap. Upon entering the Mandap, guests are free to select any open seat. As the Ceremony is a sacred occasion, snacks and non-alcoholic refreshments will be served in an adjacent hall throughout the rituals. The Feast will be held on site after the Wedding Ceremony. Dinner and cocktails will be served, and seating will be assigned. The Spectacle Afterparty follows, featuring Troupe of Dakka Marakchias, live music and Nuits Blanches. Cocktails and late night snacks will be served. Below is a breakdown of the Ceremonies.

Baraat

4:30 pm - 5:00 pm

Takes place in the courtyard 100 metres from the Wedding Ceremony

Known as ‘Baraat’, the groom, along with his friends and family, arrives at the wedding venue in a grand procession, rejoicing with song and dance along the way. The groom traditionally arrives on a horse. The Baraat is typically first attended by the Groom's friends and family. As their procession arrives, they are greeted by the Bride's friends and family, who join them in song and dance. This occurs outside of the Mandap and will kick off the wedding night's festivities.

Entrances

5:00 pm - 5:15 pm

After the Baraat, the Groom and his entourage arrive at the Mandap entrance, to be welcomed by the Bride's entourage. Milni The Milni, from the Sanskrit word Milan meaning 'a coming together', is a Hindu wedding tradition that unites two families before the marriage rituals. The groom and his family are welcomed by the bride’s family at the entrance to the Mandap. After the Milni, family and friends proceed to the Mandap, where the ceremony will take place. Guests can take any available seat inside. Upon entering the Mandap, Bride's and Groom's shoes are removed. The Bride's 'sisters' attempt to steal the Groom's shoes, to sell them back to him at the end of the wedding. This playful tradition signifies a lifetime of laughter and fun. Kanya Aagman Known as the bride’s entry, is the ritual in which the bride’s family and friends escort her to the wedding Mandap. The bride and groom are seated on the Mandap.

Ceremony

5:15 pm - 5:45 pm

Varmala Varmala is the ritual in which the bride and groom exchange garlands, signifying the union. Hast Melap & Gaanth Bandhan Hast Melap in Sanskrit for 'Joining of the hands'. The Bride's right hand is placed in the Groom's right hand. A member of the Groom's family ties ends of their scarves together, literally 'tying the knot', or 'Gaanth Bandhan'. Vivaah Havan This ritual starts with lighting the sacred fire, ‘Agni’. The priest builds the fire in a copper bowl, chants sacred mantras and makes offerings to the sacred fire. Lavaan Phere The bride and groom take four rounds around the fire, each representing the different goals of life. The Groom takes the lead in the first three rounds. The Bride leads the Groom in the last round, signifying the completion of the marriage ceremony. Saptapadi ‘Sapta’ means ‘seven’ and ‘padi’ means ‘steps’, this ritual involves the couples taking seven steps around the sacred fire. The seven steps in this ritual signify seven vows of marriage.

Blessings

5:45 pm - 6:00 pm

Jnane Tamsna

Sindoor and Mangalsutra The groom ties a necklace of black beads and gold, known as the ‘mangalsutra’, around the bride’s neck and applies sindoor, a sacred red powder, to the part in her hair. Mangalsutra and sindoor are symbols of blessed marriage and are worn only by married women. Aashirwad ‘Aashirwad’ translates to ‘blessings’. As the name indicates, this Hindu wedding ritual involves the couple seeking blessings from the priest and elder members of the family. Friends and family of the newly married couple shower them with yellow rice and rose petals, expressing their joy for the couple.

Sunset Cocktails

6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Black Tie / Traditional Indian Attire recommended.

There will be a few light bites and a champagne toast to celebrate the newly weds!

Wedding Feast

7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

The Feast will take place under the Trellis

Hindu weddings are incomplete without a lavish feast. After happily completing the marriage rituals, the guests are given a grand meal and they are kept entertained with songs and dances. Vidaai Vidaai is an emotional moment in the Hindu wedding ceremony when the bride officially leaves her parents and steps into a new life with her husband. Before crossing the doorstep, the bride throws a handful of rice behind her head as she leaves. It is a way of wishing her childhood home prosperity and happiness, even after her departure. A full feast will be provided, along with cocktails. The Feast will have a range of strict vegan to halal, including fish, lamb and chicken. No beef will be served. If there are other dietary restrictions, please inform us. Seating will be assigned. Please refer to guides for seating.
