Nathan and I met for the first time at a "small get together" after a Hastings College football game in 2018. His first words to me were "I'm Nasty Nate, I'm in your calculus class" and my first words to him were "no you're not." As the conversation continued he challenged me to a bottle flip contest and then walked away as fast as I have ever seen him walk since. Needless to say, it turned out he actually was in my calc class, he beat me in that bottle flip contest, and his name was in fact Nathan and not Nasty Nate (his football nickname). A few weeks went by after that night and our friendship up to this point had become quick conversations after calculus, races down the alley at those "small get togethers" (neither of us are competitive at all), and quick smiles as we passed by outside of the science center as I headed to physics and he left sociology. Now for my favorite part in this story though, one night out of the blue Nay texted to ask if I knew how to make a pie. Taken aback but not wanting to ask too many questions I said yes and he assured me he had the ingredients. A little while later I show up to his campus apartment ready to bake this pie and on the counter I see the crust and the frozen homemade pie filling, confused as to why he needed my help as it seemed he had it all under control I asked for a pie pan. Then suddenly it all made sense. To that he replied, "a pie what?" We made it work that night by making pie bars as there was no sight of a pie pan within walking distance, and we've gotten numerous laughs about it all since. Much to his roommates' surprise the pie fiasco turned into marvel movie nights at his apartment with his friends, and I claimed one of the armchairs in the apartment as my own (I later found out the armchair had been dubbed the single chair by his roommates as I wouldn't ever sit next to Nathan). Finally though, after all of that Nay worked up the nerve to ask me on a date to El Puerto and the rest has been history.
I met Aubrey for the first time on a Saturday night after a football game. I recognized her from my calculus class and figured now was the perfect time to go talk to her. I walked up and introduced myself explaining that we had calculus together. She gave me a weird look and insisted that we in fact did not. Completely undeterred I challenged Aubrey to a bottle flipping contest. Naturally, I won but was immediately distracted by some other conversation and sprinted away with my victory. The next Monday I saw Aubrey while walking to class. This time she remembered me, she screamed "Hi Nasty Nate!" from across the parking lot. I mumbled back a soft “Hi” much less confident than I was the night we first met. We continued to see each other around campus and out on the weekends. One night, I had the great idea to invite Aubrey over to help make an apple pie. My mom had sent me back to Hastings with apple pie filling and used this as an excuse to invite Aubrey over. She walked in the door and asked me where the pie pan was. Turns out a pie pan plays a critical role in making a pie... After the pie incident I managed to convince her to stay and watch a movie with my roommate Jon and I. Aubrey chose to sit in the only single person chair we had in the apartment, furthest away from where I was sitting. The events that night led Kendall to create an entire Power Point presentation about how I needed to officially ask Aubrey on a date or accept that we were just going to be friends. Later that week, on Saturday night I sent a message asking Aubrey on an official date. I waited for an hour. Nothing...Two hours. Nothing... Finally, more than two hours later she finally said yes. I was so excited that night! I had no idea how important that message was. From the Saturday we met, to the Saturday I asked her on a date, to the Saturday we will be married, Aubrey has made my life better in so many ways and I cannot wait to spend all of my days with her.
February 6th 2021: Nathan and I had planned a date to an Italian restaurant in downtown Castle Rock I had been wanting to try. I had a shift at the hospital from 6 am until 2:30 that Saturday morning so when I got off I went back to my apartment to shower and put on a cute outfit for our date. I showed up down at Nathan's house around 4:30 that evening and he told me he wanted to go try this brewery his buddy Paul had told him about somewhere down in Castle Rock. I didn't think twice about this as Paul always knows of these cool places and Nathan and I love to go try out new places with all of the options in the area. However, when we pulled up to this place I was surprised because it was a Saturday night and it looked like we were the only one's there based on the empty parking lot, and slightly shocked because Nay got there without any help from his phones GPS and if you know him he has a negative sense of direction LOL. Nate then recommended we go for a walk around this little pond next to this building that I thought was the brewery before we went inside. It was so beautiful out with the fresh coat of snow and running water, but I was freezing since I didn't wear a heavy, go on a walk type coat but thought he was being so sweet so I happily obliged. Next thing I knew he was on his knee, I said yes, and now here we are today excited to be planning this beautiful wedding and life together.
