Mae and Nate's love story began at the 2015 SGA Christmas Party. At the time, Mae was student committee and Nate was the guest of a mutual friend. They were briefly introduced to each other, but didn't interact more. Little did they know that the introduction would lead to a romance full of ups and downs. The following semester, Nate registered as a new student. Since Nate was the best friend of their mutual friend, Mae and Nate spend more time together at the University of Guam, whether walking to class together or attending various events. They spent many, many mornings discussing homework and eventually themselves. Nate volunteered to be part of the election committe for the new student regent and SGA council. Since Mae was a senator at the time, she would also have to volunteer her time to the election. That fateful day led them to spend the whole day together. This sparked something new between them. Though they didn't label their relationship, they both enjoyed each other company. Their talks eventually moved from Snapchat to WhatsApp, which in this day and age, is a signal of becoming closer. Their talks were harmless, but flirtatious. They would bond over sending food pictures and try to make time to hang out with each other. However, Nate wasn't planning on making this relationship grow past the flirting stage. He felt bad because he knew that he was leading on Mae. Nate, not wanting to hurt Mae, eventually told her that they shouldn't talk anymore. Mae was sad by this, but accepted it nonetheless. She redirected on focus on other things, but still missed his company. Nate also missed Mae's company. So much so that after a couple of days of pushing her away, he walked her to her 11 am class. Mae was about to walk in, but Nate had to get something off his chest. "What if I changed my mind?" Nate blurted. A bit taken aback by his question, Mae responded, "What made you change your mind?" "Do you not want me to?" Nate asked, trying to play it cool. "No," Mae responded. "Okay, then," Nate said, probably feeling a little proud of himself. "Will you go out with me?" "Sure," Mae said nonchantly. Mae then walked into her class, and their romance officially began. They would face challenges that all couples face, but their relationship is always supported by trust and a willingness to understand each other. They would find themselves depending on each other in different phases of their life and would always encourage one another to be the best they can be individually and together.
