Nate's favorite thing to do in the Mount Tamalpais area is bike camp and surf. Naomi's favorite thing to do in the Mount Tamalpais area is hike. We both love it here for it's diverse flora and fauna. Maybe you will too.

Reservation required Easy stroll/hike Features: mostly paved/boardwalked trail with phenomenal old growth redwoods, an education center, and beautiful stream. Great for small kids!

Cheapskate hike to Muir Woods

Canopy, Lost, and Fern Creek Loop (Link to the AllTrails hiking website/app) 3.5mi, 836 elevation gain Moderate hike Features: redwoods, waterfalls, free access to Muir Woods park Naomi's favorite hike to take out of towners. Has a lot of exposed roots which makes it a bit tricky for those with mobility issues, but is easily one of the most beautiful hikes in the area. Bonus, you can sneak into Muir Woods so you don't need to make a reservation. Park at or around Mountain Home Inn.

Nora Trail (Link to the AllTrails hiking website/app) 3.4mi, 787 elevation gain Moderate hike Features: redwoods, waterfalls, view from the top Beautiful varied hike with a little bit of everything. Has some exposed roots which makes it a bit tricky for those with mobility issues. Great for those who like a view at the top. Park behind Mountain Home Inn near the fire station.

Tennessee Valley Trail

3.6mi, 180 ft elevation gain Easy hike Features: mostly paved, exposed trail to a beautiful, private beach. Great for accessibility. Bring a hat!

Cataract Falls Trail (Link to the AllTrails hiking website/app) 2.8mi, 1053 elevation gain Moderate to Hard hike Features: lush greenery, so many waterfalls, a true workout For those who like a challenge, this out and back hike has 1000+ ft gain over 1.4 miles. Follows a series of incredible waterfalls, and possibly the most lush greenery in the Mt Tam area. You'll feel like you're in Kauai! Wear shoes with tread and bring poles if you've got them! Well worth the extra drive.
