In 2020, Nadia was asked to be a bridesmaid for Tessa Valdez, where she met another bridesmaid, Fran Chong. They became good friends and Nadia was invited to a Girl's Night that Fran hosted monthly. One night, Fran and Angela Chong inquired about the kind of guy that Nadia would want to date. "Do we have a Chong cousin that we can set you up with?" They wondered. Fran is married to Adam Chong and Angela to Paul Chong. They joked about bringing her into the family somehow. Initially, Nadia was a little reluctant, but eventually, she played along. "I would love someone who is Christian, plays guitar, and has long hair." Fran and Angela pondered a bit. "What about Ethan? I think that Ethan plays guitar…" Angela shared. "Yes! Ethan! And he has long hair." Fran replied. They pulled up a photo of him online to show her. Nadia looked at them both, uncertain of what would happen next. Throughout the night, Nadia got a sense that the two of them were up to something. One month later, Nadia was on her way to Angela's birthday picnic. She was running extremely late. A block down from the party, Nadia began to grow suspicious of why she was invited to Angela's party. She hadn't known Angela very long, so it seemed fishy that she was invited to such an intimate gathering so soon. Then it hit her... She was being set up. Nervous and caught off guard, she began to pray. "Lord, if this is happening, I need YOU to make it VERY clear to me that this is right. I'm not going to talk to him unless he pursues me, because I need to know that this is what YOU want." After parking and taking a few deep breaths, Nadia got out of the car, walked to where everyone was and saw Ethan sitting by Angela. She greeted everyone briefly and then sat with Fran, facing away from Ethan. Nadia knew exactly what they were up to and was extremely nervous. Not long after, Angela tried to introduce Ethan, so Nadia greeted him kindly and then went back to her conversation. It was time for intervention. Fran and Angela invited Nadia over to play some yard games. After a while, they decided it was time for a team game. Fran asked Nadia what color she wanted and then quickly assigned Ethan to be her partner. It was happening. Ethan greeted her again and started light conversation as they took turns tossing the ball. He asked about Nadia's church, upbringing and job. Ethan shared about his own life, including his current job at the time with the Orlando Rescue Mission. This caught Nadia's interest, because she has a heart for the homeless community. Soon enough, the game was over and they made their way to the drinks. Paul Chong came over to chat with them for a bit, but they later realized that he slipped away at some point. They turned around and noticed that there was a perfectly laid out picnic area right by them, so Ethan asked if Nadia would want to continue there. She did. It wasn't long before their set up became what they now joke about being their first date. An hour had passed and they were still deep in conversation about community, growth in their own lives, their desire to help the homeless, and God. Ethan faced the rest of the party while they spoke. Little did Nadia know, the other attendees were at another picnic blanket, watching and rooting the two of them on from afar. They even captured a photo that the couple would later paint-by-number and hang. The party came to an end and it was clear to Nadia that Ethan was someone she wanted to see again. Before they left, Ethan shared, "I enjoyed my time with you and would like to see you again. Would you like to go out sometime?" Nadia took a moment to pray, all the while Ethan waited in silence. “Yeah,” she nodded. “Yeah I do.” He sighed in relief, they exchanged numbers and they said goodbye. After one month of dates that included grabbing coffee, sipping smoothies & sketching, eating donuts & making origami, and many picnics, they decided to make it official. 2 years later, on May 20th, 2023, they got engaged.
