We met on Hinge, which yes... is a dating app... Kendra was spending the summer in Montana and maybe it was boredom, maybe it was fate, decided to like Zach's profile because he "looked normal". We messaged back and forth for seemingly endless weeks before Kendra came back to the valley. Quick messages back and forth turned into novels and the anticipation built for when we would actually be in the same state...
In August, we finally met for a quick meet and greet at the Vig in Arcadia. While Zach knew right away that this was different, Kendra might not have been so sure... but she gave Zach a chance and it only took a couple more dates for her to realize she was in fact having "fun". We started hitting all the milestones: meeting each other’s friends and families, talking through all of the things that made us who we are, and the dreams we had for the future. It was as easy as breathing to fall in love and know we wanted to spend our lives together.
The day had come to put a ring on Kendra's finger. The plan was in place and Zach just had to get through the day without blowing the surprise. The rouse was simple, we were going to go explore around Saguaro Lake before we went to Top Golf later that evening (something we had done before on one of our favorite dates). So after an extra layer of misdirection, of going to the mall to run some menial errands to make sure the day seemed as ordinary as possible to Kendra, we headed out towards the lake. We parked and started to head down to a spot Zach had scoped out earlier that week. Kendra later said she had visually checked Zach's pockets to make sure there wasn't a ring hidden in them... but a well placed hand in the pocket hid the surprise. Once there, we "stumbled" upon a prepared spot on the banks of the Salt River, and Zach got down on a knee and through many tears was able to pop the question and Kendra said yes! Then our siblings and friends emerged from their hiding spots for a quick toast to our engagement. Darby and Seth were able to surprise Kendra, having flown in from Montana just for this, and Luke surprised Zach earlier in the day flying in from Brooklyn after previously telling him he'd be "busy" that weekend. We then headed to Zach's parents house for a celebration with family and close friends and enjoy the rest of the evening. It was both a whirlwind and an incredibly special day that wouldn't have been possible without the help and hard work of the people we love!
We thought through hundreds of possibilities of what we wanted our wedding to look like, but in the end it was simple. We wanted to get married sooner rather than later, be out in nature (not sweating) and have our loved ones with us. So we are headed up to Montana, to as beautiful and picturesque a place as we could imagine. We know it's a big ask to come up and join us, but we would love to have you there!
