How we met

Online dating BEFORE it was cool!

Around Thanksgiving in 2012 during Nick’s sophomore year at Michigan State and Lindsay’s junior year at Anderson University, the two both caught word of a new dating site for college students called Date My School. Lindsay and her roommates at the time thought it was a dating site specifically for AU (I mean, duh…Date MY School?!) and laughed at the idea because it was such a small school and everyone already knew each other! On a whim and a bottle of wine, the girls decided to check it out and created a profile using Lindsay’s info and pictures. They quickly realized this wasn’t just for AU, but for colleges all over the country! Nick and his roommates, thinking pretty much the same thing, also created profiles as a goof. One of the first days on DMS Lindsay came across Nick’s silly profile filled with sarcasm and jokes – her favorite language. She decided to take a chance and sent him a message about how funny his profile was. The two hit it off immediately and began talking nearly all day, every day. Eventually they deleted their DMS accounts and moved the budding romance over to Facebook messages and 8+ hour Skype calls. They finally met in person a couple months into talking when Lindsay (who didn’t have a car at the time) took a bus up to East Lansing to spend a weekend. Naturally, her friends and family thought she’d for sure be murdered by this virtual stranger and his roommates but thankfully it all worked out okay! Nick asked Lindsay to be his girlfriend on February 26, 2013 over Skype. Over the next 6 months they spent countless hours on the phone or Skype each and every night, constantly texting, many weekend trips back and forth between Michigan and Indiana, and virtually living their everyday lives together from afar. Struggling with the long distance though, Lindsay decided to move up to Michigan in September of 2013 and in with Nick and his roommates where they started their lives together for real, and have never looked back. 9 years, 2 states (and about to move a 3rd time back to MI!), 2 wonderful pets and already a lifetime of memories, it still feels like their love story is just beginning!

The Proposal

9 years in the making

It was a Friday night, October 15, 2021, and Lindsay was finishing up at a tattoo appointment. She texted Nick on her way home so he could start dinner. When she walked into their apartment, she immediately noticed how spotless clean it was, a bouquet of red roses on the dining room table with a bottle of champagne and two empty glasses, and her handsome man standing there holding a red ring box. Shock and tears immediately ensued as Nick asked “what’s wrong?!” LOL As she approached him, he wrapped her up in a big hug and said “it’s time, babe.” He got down on one knee and told Lindsay to compose herself, though he admittedly says now that advice was mostly for himself! Nick opened the box and asked if she would marry him. Through her sobbing she got out an emphatic “YES!” and Nick, always the jokester, asked “are you sure?” OF COURSE she was! He slipped the ring on her finger, they hugged and cried together, then popped the champagne! That’s when he told her he also made her a nail appointment for the following morning and made dinner reservations with their good friends MaryAnn and Jimmy at Lindsay’s favorite restaurant to celebrate. He also admitted that he had hidden a GoPro on their TV stand and recorded the ENTIRE thing so they could look back and relive the most amazing night over and over! He truly thought of everything and it was a perfect moment.
