Our Story

It was a hot summers day, the sun was shinning, the wind was blowing gracefully........you already know that’s not how I talk. But in all seriousness, August 6th 2016 was a special day to me. That was the day I first laid eyes on my beautiful wife-to-be. We met at Eleazar’s BBQ. I was standing by the DJ with my Kopparberg Cider, the music was good and I was enjoying myself. Around 11pm I see Morgan come through the door with dark jeans, a white top, a hat and a denim jacket. I was certainly intrigued because I had never seen her...but I kept my cool and carried on drinking my cider. Shortly after, Charlotte came up to me and said, “Hey, let me introduce you to some people from America!” I said, “Okay”...but in my head I was like “yessss....let me make sure I bring a cider to offer her a drink.” So we talked briefly and got to chat about where we are from, what we are doing, what places we have been too, and of course, how Morgan can pretty much travel anywhere on this planet! We had a nice evening and I remembered telling myself I want to see her again.....so I organised the following weekend to go to a fun fair. Again, we had fun and I realised I needed to see her again. Fortunately for me the next day Charlotte and Ruee organised a games day at Hyde Park. That evening we exchanged numbers and kept in contact. I soon came to the conclusion that I really liked her and fortunately it was mutual. So we started dating and I still remember the first day I told her that I loved her. I looked her in the eyes and told her, “I love you from the bottom of my heart.” I knew since then that I wanted to marry her. Fast forward to November 11th, 2018....I took a big step! On one knee I proposed to my beloved girlfriend. I am grateful to have a person in my life who loves Jehovah and respects his will more than anything. It will be a true honour to be called her husband. - Debela Ebissa

The Proposal

11.11.18

On November 11, 2018, Debela surprised me and came to Houston! The proposal took place at Gerald Hines Waterwall Park. My parents told me that my dad had to give a talk downtown that day. After driving around “lost” for a while, we passed the Waterwall and my mom said, “Hey, let’s get out and take pictures here!” I instantly knew! Lol! I was so happy to see him standing there and agreed to spend forever with him. We are both so thankful for our family and our close friends that made an effort to be there for this special occasion. We love you all!
