In 2014, Kailani and Matt decided to do what many Duke freshman opted to do in order to secure a friend group, and rushed Roundtable, the quirky Selective Living Group. Little did they know, after they both got accepted into Roundtable, that they would be fated to spend a week together in the beautiful Isles of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina during "beach week." From the beginning, Kailani was able to drag Matt to go out dancing (which she still does) and their friendship began. All throughout that summer they, along with their Roundtable friends, hung out. Their bond grew stronger. They spent many nights exploring Durham and hanging out studying in the library. Then, one day, Kailani asked Matt to go to the Roundtable Semi-Formal with her "as friends" and their mutual crush was finally revealed! After 7 years of more late night study sessions, meeting each other's families, doing long distance, and finally moving in together, Matt proposed at their favorite coffee shop (of course) where they had their first date. They now are anxiously awaiting their big day as they plan in Austin, TX along with their favorite fur-baby Kylo.
