Living in San Francisco, I always loved my layovers in Nashville with the live music and good food. This January 7th trip to Nashville, I was particularly excited about, as I was flying with my favorite captain at Alaska Air and knew we were going to have a good night on the town. We made our way to Broadway and found ourselves marching up the stairs to the third floor, of the ever so famous Tootsie’s. It was a cold Wednesday night in January, but we knew we could always count on Tootsie’s for a good atmosphere and live music. Little did I know that moments later, the love of my life would be strolling through that same door. She immediately caught my eye as she walked through the door and as she turned my direction we locked eyes across the room. We stood for a moment a making eye contact, wondering if and when someone was going to say something to one another. As I sat there running all the possible cheesy pick up lines through my head, I felt a nudge from my captain and his voice “say something to her!” And at that moment all I could muster up was “do you want a beer?” Luckily, she took the bait and before I knew it we were dancing down Broadway til closing time. It’s funny looking back on it now, remembering that I crashed Molly and her wing woman Allison’s girl’s night and now Allison, her husband Gus and their baby Mills are some of our closest friends.
The next morning, I couldn’t stop thinking about this amazing girl I had just met and the time that we had on Broadway. I was hoping/wondering when I was going to see her again and as fate would have it, my flight back to San Francisco that night got delayed by several hours, giving me the chance to ask her out to dinner. I was a little nervous to send the text, but she texted right back with the same excitement and four different options of places we should go, as if she already had the text ready to go. That night at dinner, I told her about my guy’s snowboarding trip to Switzerland in February. She immediately said “oh, I’ll just meet you there...” I said “you should” and she replied with “you have no idea how serious I am...” I called a couple days later to ask if she had thought about the Switzerland trip and to my surprise she already had her flights picked out and a 10 day itinerary planned around seeing me. That grand gesture meant so much to me and that’s when I knew I was falling in love with her spontaneous, gypsy soul. Fast forward one month and we had the most incredible trip to Switzerland. I can honestly say I think this is where we fell in love. Switzerland will always hold a special place in our hearts, which is why I chose it as the place I wanted to propose.
