We were both invited to watch a mutual hockey student's game and were introduced (thanks, Mo) at the pre-game tailgate over a couple beers. After the game the group from the tailgate went out for pizza and wings and we both tagged along. We spent the rest of the night eating wings, drinking beer and getting to know each other. Who knew dropping a chicken wing on a white shirt would be so attractive?!? We hit it off right away and ended up having the longest unofficial first date as we helped close down the restaurant and then a bar. The following week we had our first official date at Wakefield Tavern. Now, 3 years, 127 dates, 110 hockey games and counting, 40 road trips, 4 vacations, and 1 quarantine later we are getting married!
A last minute trip to Myrtle Beach turned into the perfect opportunity for Jon to pop the question. He had all his plans set for a romantic beach proposal after dinner. However, a looming rain storm had other ideas and as dinner wore on and the rain continued Jon scrambled to come up with a plan B. He caught a break, literally in the clouds and an opportunity for that beach front proposal was there just as the sun was setting. Disguised as an opportunity for our traditional beach getaway selfie, Jon hurried them both to the beach where he set up his camera phone to capture the shots. Once the necessary selfies were taken, the phone was flipped to video and Jon approached Ashley with a letter. At the end read, 'Will you be my WIFE?" and as Ashley read the final line Jon dropped to one knee, showed Ashley the ring and she could barely utter the word 'Yes!'. She had no idea it was coming and after the shock wore off we celebrated with wine and lots of phone calls overlooking the beach from our balcony!
