This love story started where all great love stories do, at Cityside Bar in Brighton, Massachusetts. Mike was under the impression that Hanna kept smiling at him (she insists she wasn't, she just smiles a lot). After requesting her phone number, Mike went home and worked with his friends to craft the perfect opening text. At that point, all they knew was that her name was very german, so after lots of deliberation they finally settled on "How about You and I go out for a Bratwurst Dinner?". Understandably, Hanna politely declined. Our love story could have ended right then and there. But Mike couldn't get this girl with the pretty smile out of his head, so for the next two years (usually on Sundays) he'd occasionally send her a text with one simple request: "Don't forget about me" (usually accompanied by a picture of the calzone he ordered for dinner). Hanna finally succumbed to his charms and agreed to go on a date, partly because she was curious how one person can consume so much calzone. The first few dates weren't without their ups-and-downs. After date 2, Mike extended his hand for a hand-shake in what many consider to be a top-5 most awkward date moment on record. However, slowly but surely, the pair came to learn how much they have in common. They both love adventures and doing things out of the ordinary, and they both love a good IPA. Their love took them on a journey that brought the pair around the country and the globe, taking scores of pictures together dressed as wizards and becoming even more of a team each step of the way. In August 2018, Mike and Hanna packed up their car and moved to North Carolina to pursue graduate degrees together at Duke. A year spent making new friends together, hunting for jobs together, and spending all night at the kitchen table doing homework only confirmed that they're lifelong partners-in-crime. On May 28th, 2019, Mike asked Hanna to marry him in a park overlooking Boston, the city where their love story began.
