Our story dates back to the year of 2014, early in our social work careers. We initially met when Marco interviewed for a Youth Partner position and Michelle sat in the interview to provide perspective on the role to other interviewees. As the most competent and cute candidate, he was a shoo-in for the position. Marco believes it was all of a part of Michelle's plan, but really the agency needed a male bilingual thug to work with these amazing kiddos. During our journey of working together, we supported each other as fellow coworkers, classmates, friends and then partners. We began studying together at Veronese Cafe while both pursuing a Master's degree in Social Work. Michelle was living life while Marco was "finding himself." Just kidding, Marco was just really dedicated to his studies. Michelle says she would have settled for a hook up while studying together, but Marco made her put in the time and effort to earn his trust. After months of studying from December 2016 to April 2017, Marco finally suggested to get a beer instead of continuing to study on a Saturday night like losers. On 4/8/2017, we shared our first kiss at Hopscotch in Fullerton. Then many more memories were made and if you're reading this, maybe even some with you. We love you!
To celebrate our 5th anniversary, Marco planned to take Michelle down to San Diego where we had our very first weekend trip back in May 2017. We returned to our familiar favorites eating at Tacos El Gordo and getting a beer at Half Door Brewing Co. Michelle guided Marco through relationship quizzes and reflections about favorite memories without a clue of what was about to come. Marco took Michelle back to the Sunset Cliffs to watch the sunset. It was unfortunately overcast and windy, so we snuggled up together in a blanket, sat on the rocks and continued to reminisce. As we were leaving, Marco got down on one knee and proposed. While waiting patiently for a response, Michelle was sobbing and getting distracted by strangers cheering in the distance. Marco asked, "So is that a yes?" YES it was!
