Mike and Sawyer met freshman year at Northern Arizona University, in Flagstaff, AZ. The pair were friends, but didn’t stay in touch after Mike graduated and started teaching English abroad. Four years later, Mike and Sawyer had both landed in the Pacific Northwest; Mike in Seattle, and Sawyer in Portland. Mike reached out to Sawyer (thanks Facebook) and asked if he could take her to dinner sometime. In lieu of dinner, Mike and Sawyer went on a camping trip together for Mike’s 26th birthday. When Mike insisted that they couldn’t go to sleep until they had both spotted a shooting star (after serenading Sawyer with “Over the Rainbow” on his ukelele over and over again by the campfire), Sawyer thought she might kinda like the guy. Over the next few months, Sawyer and Mike explored the PNW together almost every weekend. Mike asked Sawyer if she would be his girlfriend prior to a long roadtrip to Glacier, Banff, and Jasper National Parks. Sawyer said yes. Mike moved to Portland, and the couple moved in together right before Sawyer started grad school. When she graduated, the couple decided to move to Tucson, AZ to be closer to family. Immediately upon arriving in Tucson and moving into their dream rental house, they adopted Miso, the most adorable dog in the world. Shortly thereafter, Mike and Sawyer joined Sawyer’s family in Mexico for a weekend getaway. On their first day there, Mike proposed to Sawyer during sunset on the beach. Sawyer said yes. Mike and Sawyer are beyond excited to celebrate this story, and the chapters yet to come, with their loved ones at Sawyer’s childhood home on October 17th, 2020. See you there!
