We met through friends during the summer of 2015 when I first moved to Raleigh- shoutout to Zach and Nancy! One morning after a night out, I was laying on my couch when Michael walked in completely unexpectedly. It was far from love at first sight but as we started hanging out pretty regularly with our friends, we started forming a solid friendship. Michael started coming over more and more and finally Nancy and I convinced him to come on a roadtrip with us to the Clemson vs Notre Dame Football Game during a hurricane. I reassured my parents we were safe driving as I had a roadway engineer in the car! Although Notre Dame lost, Michael and I won as we had our first kiss at a college football game amidst Hurricane Joaquin! It could not be more fitting. We made it official a few weeks later!
September 29, 2018...What an incredible day it was. To set up this day, I actually have to start a week prior. Maeve’s dad was in town visiting for the weekend and we were enjoying the many fun activities that we had planned. Her dad visits us every so often, so I knew that this was the one shot I would have to ask him in person for his daughter’s hand in marriage. He had already visited in June, so I knew we were not going to see him again until our Christmas vacation to Hawaii. All weekend I was ready to get him alone to ask him, but somehow every time I got him alone, we had but thirty seconds before Maeve would appear. Luckily, I finally was able to get a few minutes on a walk back from brunch on the day before he left. We started off that Saturday by heading to grab some lunch and drinks with Kara and her boyfriend and watch some of the college football games. Kara and her boyfriend were aware of what was going to happen that day, so I had her suggest heading out to grab lunch to try and throw Maeve off. NC State had a home game that day vs Virginia that on any normal Saturday we probably would have gone to. Not sure how she didn't figure out something was coming when I said that I didn't feel like going to the game. Those who know me know I never turn down a NC State football game. We eventually made it home where I had planned to take Vinny out on a walk with her and ask her by the courtyard fountain out front of our apartment complex. I had some of our friends waiting at the brewery overlooking the courtyard to witness the proposal and celebrate with us afterwards. Vinny dragged me ahead wanting to run out to play, making it difficult for me to say my speech like I had planned. Luckily I was able to get him under control, say my speech, and finally ask her to marry me! I had a little trouble convincing her to go on the walk- hence her attire, but I eventually did get her to come with. Looking back, I think she is glad she went on that walk.
