A dangerously good place for Napolitan style pizza and great wine.
Franschhoek Wine, French Cheese and Cuban Cigars... Our vote for the best shop in Franschhoek. When you go, ask for Charles, make sure to park your car close by because you'll be leaving with a few cases. If you like rare international wines too, you better hide your credit card.
Right next door to Cartel you'll find the best coffee in town. Run by our old neighbours Darren and Eliisa. Pop in for coffee and a chat.
Burgers and triple cooked chips, say no more.
This is where Jolene and I celebrated signing our first lease together on our apartment up the road. Do the beer tasting, it's worth it.
Something a bit more decadent but our go-to for date nights and special occasions. It never disappoints and the decor makes for some spectacular photos.
The best spot in Franschhoek for sundowners and an excellent cocktail. Happy hour is from 5-7, go for the drinks and the view, don't worry about the food.
Believe it or not, this wine farm has the best bakery we have ever been to. Get there early for fresh sourdough, Pasteis de Nata and Michael's favourite, the bacon and cheese croissants.
Right at the top of the Franschhoek Pass is this spectacular private nature reserve. Hiking ranges from an easy 20min to extreme day long treks. With the entrance already at the top of the pass, you'll have spectacular views of the franschhoek valley from the start to finish.
We are letting you in on a local's secret, follow the maps link to the back entrance of the dam. From here you have complete access to the dam, tributary river and the endless mountains behind. Past the dam and up the river for about 3km is our favourite secluded swimming spot. Take a cooler with some snacks and a cold beer for those hot summer days.
