Our favorite place to get oysters and a beverage! The Damariscotta River has become renowned for having the perfect conditions to grow the most delicious oysters and now there are a plethora of oyster farms up and down the river. The Shuck Station is where you can taste them all. From the large and meaty Norumbega, to the bright and sweet Moondacer. Micheal's favorite are the Wild Dams that are wild oysters harvested from the bottom of the river by divers.
A great place to grab lunch or dinner with inside and outside seating and an inside and outside bar. They have great views of the river on their outside deck!
Great breakfast sandwiches!! Gluten free bread options!
This is a beautiful walking trial down to the water and we often take Lilly here!
A shorter and gentler walk, this site once contained a massive oyster shell heap, or midden, formed over a period of more than 1,000 years by Native Americans. Trails meander across open fields to the shore of the Upper Damariscotta River. Picnic tables are placed for ideal viewing of wildlife and wild currents. An accessible northbound connector trail allows access to Whaleback Shell Midden State Historic Site. This trail is 8′ wide, gently graded and finished with stone dust, ideal for strollers, bikes and wheelchairs as well as for those on foot.
Boat tours take in the river’s wildlife and history, and its new role in oyster farming. You’ll see harbor seals in action, bald eagles and ospreys soaring above the coves, as oyster farmers raise very tasty oysters The 2-hour boat rides are educational and equally entertaining!
