Where It All Began

Two Engineers, One Company and the right Moment

Though this match was truly made in heaven, it must also be credited as a match made at 225 Park Avenue South. The beginnings of our story go something like this: It's Gianna's last day at STV and she shares the very last of Nana's creampuffs she brought in. Michael goes to a friend's wedding, and misses the farewell gathering. A few days later Michael emails Gianna asking if he could take her out for a "farewell drink". Emails fly back and forth while Gianna is out west visiting family. Phone numbers are finally exchanged! After about a month Michael takes Gianna out for that drink (or three) (First date 2015-06-25!).... it lasts for hours and includes a backyard mexican dinner. Four dates later, after a visit to Socrates Sculpture Park, a drink overlooking midtown, a French dinner in LIC they stroll onto the piers in Long Island City in Gantry State Park and share their first kiss. On 2015-07-30 they officially become a couple. On 2017-11-03, Michael proposes on that very same pier <3

The Proposal

A little luck, a cover story and elements from our journey.

Any good story starts with deception so Michael (with a bit of help from Angela and Brianna) casually invites Gianna to a 20’s-themed singing performance at a local spot in Long Island City (Gianna still wants to go to one!) Gianna is ecstatic since not only is it themed but they can dress up. Michael plans the big moment with the camera crew (thank you, Christine!) while Gianna is buying said themed items at Party City. There's a chance she will show up as a flapper. Michael says a small prayer and luckily Gianna decides a sleek black dress will work just fine. (She does buy a boa though). On Nov 3rd Michael picks Gianna up from work, dressed to the nines - I mean it is the 20's. Both in formalwear and back packs, they travel hand-in-hand to LIC. Michael suggests they go to catch a sunset by the water (on pier where they had their first kiss) since there was time before the performance. On the way the wind whips, the sky threatens rain, (Michael has no backup plan so another quick prayer is said). Once they arrive on the pier Gianna goes on and on about how gorgeous the skyline looks and all the things that they can do. Michael seizes his moment after a longer-than-anticipated wait and kneels down and proposes like the ultimate gentleman. Gianna goes into blissful shock, wonders if this is real life and definitely says yes! (phew!) Michael takes Gianna to get drinks at the first date spot in Manhattan. Then they head to dinner at Pier A; their 6-month spot where they went right before Gianna had moved to MA. The whole time Gianna wonders why her parents aren't answering their phone. The reason, Michael had arranged for an intimate engagement dinner party with both families, who had been eagerly awaiting the moment of their arrival. Again blissful shock. The food, decorations, view, and the company were all enjoyed by this new family. The night is complete with 20’s music playing in the background bringing the evening full circle. It was a magical proposal.
