The Proposal

August 27th, 2024 I asked Nicole to get ice cream with me on a random Tuesday night, go for a ride in the Bronco and go down by the beach. We get there, order, and sit down at one of the picnic tables and start talking about our weekend. I see a text from Justin, which was sent to our group chat - Justin, Nicole, Trevor and myself - saying that he had a family reservation at Charlie’s of Bay Head for Labor Day, but they unfortunately had to cancel. He asked if we would want to go so he didn’t have to pay the fee of canceling on a holiday. I checked my calendar and said “I’m in! Sounds great. Trev is working now but he is off Labor Day”. Nicole responded “BOOK IT” and an hour later Trevor said “I’ll be there”. Labor Day September 2nd, 2024 After working the weekend, I was excited to go to the gym, get a coffee and sit on the beach all day. Trevor said he really wanted to play mini golf at some point during the day before dinner. He said, “Cait, summer is basically over and we didn’t play mini golf once, can we go at some point before dinner?” I said yes because we didn't go once this summer. Trevor and I went to our gym, drove home and took quick showers, threw our bathing suits on, beach chairs in the car, and to Rook we went. We grabbed coffees and drove to Brick Beach I. We left the beach around 2pm so we had enough time to get ready and to play mini golf before dinner. Showers, hair, makeup, getting all ready for Charlie’s as it is a fancier restaurant, I kept telling Trevor my hair was going to blow all over the place playing mini golf before dinner and it would look like a rats nest. He totally brushed me off and said, “it will be fine, throw a hair brush in the car if you’re worried”. I had a new dress from TJMaxx in my closet with tags on it that I bought with my sister a month ago. Little did I know when I bought this with her, she had it all planned out that I would be buying it for my proposal. Backstory: At TJMaxx, Jill had this dress in HER cart because she loved it. We got up to the register and she said, “Cait, this dress would look so much better on you, the straps are too small for me”, and threw it in my cart. It was a very pretty dress, so I kept it in my cart and bought it. Trevor and I get in his truck and start driving toward the beach. He asked me which mini golf course I wanted to play at, and since the summer beach traffic was so bad in Point Pleasant, I thought it would be a good idea to go to the Lavallette course. We get to mini golf, dressed in our outfits for Charlie’s and play 18 holes. I actually won 56-54, my first time ever beating him in mini golf. Its about 4:20 pm, we get in the car and start to drive north, back up to Point Pleasant for dinner. As we are driving on Route 35, Trevor decided to turn onto Lyman Street in Mantoloking “so we could take the Bay drive home”. I am anticipating he’s going to make a right to keep heading north, but instead he goes straight, right in front of a gazebo. I said, “where are we…” and I see the letters “C & T” on the ground lit up with white roses all over the floor of the gazebo. We get out of the car, Trevor drops to one knee, and asks me to marry him. After our moment, I hear cheering in the distance, look to my left to see Nicole and Justin hiding in someones driveway yelling “CONGRATULATIONS” and running towards us. We took incredible photos, went to B2 for a round of champagne and raw bar. I asked when we were going to Charlie’s and Trevor said he needed a way for me to be dressed up and to get down to the beach and that there was never a reservation. As we were driving to my parents house to tell them we're engaged, he makes the turn into our neighborhood. I said, “wait I thought we were going to my parents house?”. He blatantly ignores me, pulls up into our backyard and I see so many of our friends and family standing in our backyard screaming, crying and cheering for us. I was in total shock and couldn't believe this was real life.
