If you're going to do an observation deck, this is the best one. Be sure to visit the second floor section which gives you amazing views of Central Park, unobstructed by glass. Bonus: this is where Dan proposed
Dan and Ashley both love improv and live comedy, and this is one of the best new theaters in Brooklyn. Come see a show, you might be disappointed, but that's improv for you.
OK, so the elephant in the room--this is far, far away from the rest of the city and it'll take you a while to get there. But Coney Island is a really fun New York experience that everyone should try once. Ride the Cyclone, go to the beach, eat a hotdog from Nathans, or just see the amazingly varied crowd that comes to America's most historic amusement park.
Ashley has performed here many times, and even when she's not on stage, it's a great place to see live music. Located in Greenwich Village, one of New York's most beautifully walkable neighborhoods--after the show, just let yourself wander and appreciate the sights.
The Tenement Museum is an amazing place to learn about New York history, one of Dan's passions. Located in a restored tenement building in the Lower East Side, the museum offers programs that trace the immigrant experience in New York. A true classic. Make a reservation in advance, you'll need to book a tour and they can sell out.
Ashley introduced Dan to this Italian restaurant in the Village after learning of his love for pasta. The lasagna here is top-notch and comes in many different varieties. It can get a little busy, especially on weekend evenings, so reservations might be helpful.
Astoria is known for its Greek immigrant community, and this is one of the best Greek restaurants in the neighborhood (and hence, the city, and hence, the world). Order the saganaki.
One of Dan and Ashley's favorite things to do is Pizza Club, organized by their friend Nora. As she puts it, "we show up places and eat pizza". That's all you need to do! It's that simple! This place is one of the best pies we've had, located right in Astoria.
If you're looking for a New York bagel, this place does it right. In true Astoria spirit, it's also got plenty of Korean fusion options--check out the bulgogi egg and cheese for a great take on the classic sandwich.
This Astoria restaurant serves delicious (and, fair warning, enormous) chicken sandwiches, as well as burgers and pastries. A great option for breakfast or brunch, try to sit outdoors if you can.
