They met at a Fraternity and Sorority event in college. Everyone in attendance received a playing card when they walked in and had to sit at the table that matched their card. Alec and Melissa both had spades, and Alec sat next to Melissa. Alec had to leave the event early but reached out to Melissa after to make sure he did not miss anything important.

Melissa was "patiently" waiting for Alec to propose, so she made sure to pack five different really cute proposal worthy outfits when he asked he to go on his family's vacation to a resort in Scottsdale, Arizona over the Fourth of July, (Melissa's favorite holiday). On July 2, after going to dinner with the Best Man Mark Stevenson and Bridesmaid Emily Stevenson, Melissa was secretly bummed because she wore that best outfit that day but the sun had already set and how could you propose in the dark. But Alec had a plan. As they watched the resort fireworks show and Melissa bombarded Alec with thoughts and questions about different fireworks, she turned and noticed Alec down on one knee. And he asked. And she said yes.
