Janelle and Melody met through a mutual friend in the ninth grade while attending St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale, FL. In the tenth grade, they were assigned to the same homeroom where Janelle sat behind Melody, typically scrambling to complete her homework due that day. The two became closer that year and began spending time together outside of school as well, visiting each other at their part-time jobs, hanging with other friends, and going through the motions of being typical teens. It was when Janelle showed up at Melody's place of work with a giant inflatable pool float shaped like a whale that Melody realized Janelle was crushing on her (because Melody was in the marine biology club at school and was all about "saving the whales"). At the time though, they ignored the spark and buried these feelings deep down, just remaining good friends. They went on to attend and graduate from different FL colleges, seeing each other randomly over holiday breaks and remaining in each other's orbit. Following college graduation, the pair moved back to Fort Lauderdale to kick off their careers, with Janelle in Engineering and Melody in Social Work. The perfect balance began there- Janelle was the numbers and logic to Melody's emotion and impulse. Back in Fort Lauderdale, they then became roommates, where the feelings, once buried, rose right back to the surface. Janelle was ready to pursue a relationship, but Melody was not. In the summer of 2018, Janelle called Melody's bluff and moved out of state to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where one of her best friends was assigned for residency and had an extra room. Despite the distance, Melody visited Janelle a few times and they spoke every day. In April 2019, Melody visited Janelle again and, on the last day of the visit, they went for a hike; it was there that Melody finally said aloud what had been in her heart for quite some time: that she was in love with Janelle and it was time to give this all they had. The following month, Melody flew to Pittsburgh and drove Janelle and all of her belongings back to Florida. After that, there was no looking back! Five (official) years later, built upon the truest friendship either has ever known, Janelle and Melody are ready to say 'I Do' to forever together.
