FAQs

Question

How do I get to and from the airport?

Answer

The hotel is about 35 miles from the airport or a 40 minute taxi or uber ride (approximately $75). Car rental is available from the airport (approximately $20 / day).

Question

How do I get around Kansas City?

Answer

We recommend renting a car from the airport (approximately $20 / day). Uber/Lyft are also readily available if you choose not to rent.

Question

What is a Sangeet?

Answer

A sangeet is a night of music and dance to entertain the bride and the groom, hosted by the bride's siblings, cousins and friends. It is an informal event, and we encourage guests to join whenever they arrive. You can expect choreographed dances, speeches and other performances. A buffet-style dinner of Indian food will be served throughout the evening. We hope you can join!

Question

What should I wear to the Sangeet?

Answer

Guests are welcome to come dressed as they travel but are also invited to wear dressy causual/smart casual Indian clothes or otherwise any dressy causual/smart casual attire. The celebration is very colorful but anything goes!

Question

What is a Baraat?

Answer

A baraat is a groom's procession. It will be held in the Sheraton courtyard, just outside the first floor entrance of the hotel. You can expect to see the groom on a white horse and his friends and family cheering beside him, all accompanied by a dhol (drum) player. The bride's family and friends will congregate at the entrance of the Sheraton on the first floor to receive them. Guests are welcome to join the Baraat or the family and friends receiving the procession or can also watch from the mezzanine. Hor d'oeuvres will be served.

Question

What should I wear to the wedding?

Answer

The dress code is cocktail attire but above all, we want our guests to feel comfortable! The ceremony will be outdoors in the afternoon and the reception will be indoors in the evening. Colorful attire is encouraged throughout the weekend.

Question

What should we do after the Ceremony and before the Baraat / Reception?

Answer

Guests are welcome to do whatever they want in the hours between the ceremony and the reception. We encourage guests to explore Kansas and have provided recommendations at the "Things to Do" tab including our favorite barbecue joints, nearby watering holes and activities for little ones.

Question

Are little ones welcome?

Answer

Absolutely! We love kiddos and all are welcome to every event. We've included activities that we think little ones will enjoy on the "Things to Do" tab, including a nearby petting zoo, a restaurant that delivers burgers by trains and a dinosaur museum. If any parents would like help arranging for a local babysitter, please contact Meher's cousin, Natasha at Natasha.i.ahmed@gmail.com.

Question

Do we have an official hashtag for the wedding?

Answer

Why, yes! It's #meherandalex.

Question

What about unofficial hashtags?

Answer

On that too! #WaagettingMeheried #MehericAls #WaitHowDoYouSpellTheirNames Any and all additional unofficial hashtags are welcome. The punnier the better.
