It's Fall of 2017 and I'm just getting the hang of this college student-athlete thing at Stanford. Being gone every other weekend made it a little tricky to branch out and make new friends, but by the end of October and beginning of November I was starting to get close with a lot of people on my hall in my freshman dorm Larkin. At some point in this post-Halloween and pre-Thanksgiving time, I met King, a red-headed boy from the South who lived 5 doors down. We became super quick friends and spent lots of time hanging out with big groups of our friends. King was sweet enough to watch my Elite 8 game and off I went to the Final Four and Christmas break with a sweet goodbye from King and some other dorm friends. Over Christmas break, King and I talked lots about random things and by the time the end of the break came around, I couldn't wait to see him or start school! Quickly after we returned from winter break, King and I were hanging out ALL the time...and I loved every second! I knew I liked him, but didn't want to mess up our friendship. Finally, one day we were hanging out in my room, taking down my Christmas decorations (long overdue) and I had put on a heart headband I'd gotten for the upcoming Valentine's Day (I LOVE holidays and fun headbands). King had to leave to go to a dinner, but before he did, I rushed into his room and professed that I had a huge crush on him, assuming he would turn me down. Lucky for me, he said he liked me, too! We went on a ski trip with our dorm to Tahoe the next weekend, and just like that, my life changed with the bounce of my heart headband and I couldn't be more grateful for those first few moments. Love, Meggy
Well, Meghan told y'all about the amazing (and hilarious) way our relationship started. Now I get to fill in how we got to this point, with our wedding date set! As Meg said, we were fast friends. We became inseparable once we started dating. Somehow, we always had something to talk about! We found that our movie venn diagram intersected with Marvel, and our shared love of hikes led to lots of trips to the Stanford Dish! We always say we're our best selves on long walks - and in movie theaters. The first summer of our relationship, we traded visits to each other's homes in Chattanooga and Orange County. Meg fell in love with the lake house, and I fell in love with the beach! That became the first of many trips to two of our favorite places on earth. We're both family people, and we love each other's families so much, too! From watching Meghan win two national championships including scoring the CHAMPIONSHIP POINT in one of them, to traveling to Italy and Hawaii together, to just experiencing our wonderful college years together; Meghan and I's relationship has been the greatest adventure and the greatest honor of my life. Love. KingJ
By the end of college, we both knew we were ready to take the next step - engagement! So I thought, what better time than graduation night! As I told her, she was my Stanford. What better way to celebrate the end of the last chapter than by beginning the next! I bought the ring months in advance and kept it carefully hidden from Meghan despite her prodding about when I was going to propose and whether I had a ring yet. In the week before graduation, I let everybody in our families know my plan: after our graduation dinner, I was going to bring Meghan to a purported photo op with some friends outside our freshman dorm, Larkin. Then, with a photographer in hiding, I would pop the question. Well, everything went swimmingly until dinner, when apparently I was having an out-of-body experience. Everyone said I was even more affectionate than usual with Meghan, but she noticed I wouldn't even make eye contact with her. Well, I managed to get her away from the dinner and to our spot despite her balking on our "senior pictures" moments before. When we arrived to the spot, with pictures from our relationship and Meghan's drink of choice (Dr. Pepper) splayed out on a picnic blanket, we both knew what was happening. And we could not have been happier. I think our photos tell you all you need to know - we were so thankful to say hello to our lives together on the same day we said goodbye to Stanford! Now as we take on our next big adventure, teaching in Memphis, I'm just so thankful we're doing it together. Everybody who knows Meghan knows how lucky I am to have her. And we're so lucky to have y'all celebrating with us real soon. Thank you for all your love and support throughout our lives and especially on our big day!
