Stage 1: How we met

Team Denzel and Megs for life met in 2011. Before online dating was cool, our first encounter was on Facebook messenger after a high school powder puff game where Meg scored some touchdowns, and Danny had his chest painted (yes, we still have those messages). Despite our team name, our love grew slowly as we stayed friends throughout the remainder of high school, connected by soccer and mutual friends. Then within six months of Meg's freshman year at Ithaca College in 2013-2014, Danny was driving four hours to ask her to be his girlfriend. We racked up some serious car miles traveling back and forth between Ithaca and Lycoming for four years, and phone minutes talking in the dorm stairwells in the middle of the night. Our favorite memories consisted of Danny winning two Mac Championships; trips to the Cell Block and Moonies; travel from Rehoboth beach, to Punta Cana, Utah, and everywhere in between; finishing a Vermonster with our parents; and always being able to meet at "home" in Elizabethtown.

Stage 2: Virginia

After both finishing school in 2018, Danny took a job in Elizabethtown while Meg finished up her clinicals and studying for her OT exam. We knew after that short time that we wanted our own adventure. We remember the conversation going along the lines of "want to move somewhere different?" "Philly suburbs? Or how about near DC?" We decided to do some job searching in Northern Virginia, then both somehow landed jobs that started within two weeks of each other. Neither one of us has looked back since. Alexandria, Virginia has entirely won our hearts. Having both grown up in the small town of Elizabethtown, the experience of having the metro in walking distance, any type of food at our fingertips, and Inova Fairfax Medical Campus to help develop both of our careers has been irreplaceable.

Stage 3: The engagement

2020 was not only hard, but it was beautiful. It was a year that we will never forget, for more reasons than one. After being cooped up in our small 2-bedroom Old Town Alexandria apartment for months, it was time to begin our adventures again. Meg had decided that it would be a good idea to meet her best friend, and her now husband, at Shenandoah State Park. Of course, Meg suggested a photo shoot as well. After his initial plans in July were cancelled, Danny decided that this was the perfect moment as Meg would never expect a proposal at something she planned. Danny almost proposed in the living room before getting in the car to start the drive at 4am, but was able to keep it together to instead get down on one knee at the edge of a cliff on Stony Man Summit. With the sun coming over the horizon and a double rainbow in the distance, we couldn't have asked for a more perfect morning. The love continued as we took our celebration back to Virginia where Danny had both sets of parents waiting to surprise Meg in our favorite park, with what else but Long Johns and pizza.
