Bryce and I both went to Pleasant Grove high school. He was a senior when I was a sophomore. Bryce hung out with my older sister and their group of friends. He even went to a high school dance with her! Don’t worry, they were just friends. I knew who he was because he was an older popular senior. Bryce claims that he knew who I was but who knows, haha. Years later his cousin married one of my best friends sisters. They decided that we needed to go out on a date. It took a little coaxing, more from Bryce’s end. But we finally went on our first date.... And as they say, the rest is history!
I had told Mallory that I received a free dinner at the Tree Room up at Sundance from work. I should have known that she would read right through my attempt to lie here. I'm a horrible liar. I could tell once I picked her up that she had an idea that something was happening that night. My goal was to keep a couple surprises up my sleeve. When we arrived at the restaurant, I could tell it was going to be a great night. Mal seemed to put all my nerves at ease. Just having that ring in my pocket all night was enough to give me a panic attack. We enjoyed dinner and people watching. After dinner, I had a plan to have someone come to our table and hand us free tickets for the Full-moon lift ride. Long story short, the delivery of the tickets couldn't have gone worse. We had a good laugh about it and I just told Mallory to play along as we headed up to the Sundance ski lift. Once we were on the lift, all the nerves of having the ring in my pocket came right back. We enjoyed the full moon on the way up the lift. As we reached the top of the mountain, I tried to distract her while I reached for the ring in my pocket. I held the ring up and tried to remember everything I had planned to say. I think all I was able to get out was a smile and a quick, "I love you, Will you marry me"? Luckily she said yes or it would have been a quiet and long ride back down the lift. Even though the night was great, I knew Mal had an idea on almost everything that happened. The one surprise I was able to come through on was to have both our families at the bottom of the lift, waiting for us with signs and flowers for Mal. Lots of hugs and congrats were exchanged. A great end to the night and an even better beginning for US.
