We met online in September 2016, like the true millennials we are, before going out for beers. We ordered a gigantic plate of appetizers and ate only two mozzarella sticks because we were so immersed in our conversation. We were drawn to each other immediately for both superficial reasons, like our mutual love for the Green Bay Packers, and our shared values, especially our love for our families. We both opened up to each other so easily. The next morning, Chelsea went to a Zumba class and told her friend that she just met her future husband. We went out for date #2 that night (bowling and walking around West Hartford) and just three days later we realized we were both all in.
It was Christmas Eve, and to prepare for a McTigue family holiday, we had to make a pit stop for some presents that John allegedly left at his mom's house. Inside, we were greeted by John's mom and two of his sisters, who told Chelsea that she just *had* to see the new religious lawn ornament in the backyard. Chelsea braced herself for a glowing statue of Baby Jesus. Outside in the cold and looking for the light-up Lord, her jaw dropped when she saw "Chelly, Will You Marry Me?" illuminated in red and green on a handmade light display. John got down on one knee, Chelsea blacked out and cried, and we celebrated the entire holiday season. That will forever be Chelsea's favorite Christmas gift.
