We met serendipitously in Atlantic Beach, NC during the Big Rock fishing tournament. The way Charles could tell my twin sister, Maddie, and I apart is because I kept smiling at him. We had a whirlwind couple of days boating in the intracoastal, enjoying painkillers from Front Street Grill at Stillwater in Beaufort, and eating the fresh mahi Charles reeled in that week. It was quite the adventure for two strangers. Over the past seven years, Charles and I have been driving, flying, and even tug boating to see each other along the east coast ranging from New York to North Carolina. Due to the nature of our long distance relationship, we often would meet in fun places, halfway between us, for weekends of adventure. It seems only fitting we return to the place where we first met to celebrate our marriage.
Fast forward seven summers, Charles and I have finally found a home base together. In June 2023 we bought a home together in Baltimore, MD! Charles came home from his two week hitch on a Wednesday evening, and we spent the evening very casually meeting his mom for dinner and went for a stroll around our new neighborhood. When we came back to our house, Charles pulled a ring from his pocket and he asked me to marry him. I was definitely caught off guard and happily surprised. We celebrated on our rooftop with Michelob Ultras and Dogfish Head beers as that was what we were drinking the weekend we met.
