How We Met

High school strangers, college sweethearts!

So here's the funny thing- Grant and I went to the same high school and didn't even know it. We went through all four years never interacting or even passing each other in the halls (maybe its because he did band and I was a theatre kid) and were 2 years apart in grades. Grant graduated, went to Auburn University and I did the same later. It wasn't until a fateful Iron Bowl football game that my sister (MOH) decided to let me know that this boy in the band with her named Grant had a huge crush on me, she had given him my contact information already, AND he wanted me to go to a band party with her tonight so he could see me. I turned to her and basically said "if Auburn wins this game, I'll go." Well, Auburn ended up winning and off I went to this party, wearing my cutest outfit and just waiting for this Grant Gordon character to come up and talk to me. Finally- after what seemed like forever- he did, and the rest is history. :)

Our Engagement

Together in perfect harmony....

Grant and I both love music- so much that we both decided to pursue more school after our undergrads (I know, we're crazy). He went off to UT in Knoxville to gain his Master's of Music, and I to Chattanooga to study music therapy at UTC. Thus began two years of long distance, with both of us being busy as ever. Not going to lie, it was rough at times, but we always saw the light at the end of the tunnel- that being our perfect engagement.. Grant had his graduation from UT planned a weekend in May so I went up to Knoxville to help him prepare. I knew that both of our families would be there to support him so I was expecting everyone to be there that Saturday for his graduation. I got to Knoxville pretty late that night and was greeted with a glass of wine and my favorite movie- Tangled (immediately suspicious, but genuinely pleased). The next day consisted of a cute date biking by the Tennessee River, where I thought a proposal was going to happen (no ring). Then Saturday came and Grant told me we were going to go walking on UTs campus, so of course I dressed my best but also comfy since we were doing a lot of exercise. Then he told me we were going for a hike, which I misunderstood and thought was later (hence why I wore nicer clothes), but nevertheless I let him drive me to a mountain to begin our journey to the top. Not going to lie, the way up was hard, I forgot my water bottle, and it was starting to sprinkle- but something told me I needed to keep going. When we got to the top, Grant handed me a bouquet of wildflowers that he had been collecting behind me (so sweet) and walked with me arm in arm until we reached the most beautiful view. As I took it in, I saw him bend on one knee out of the corner of my eye and started bawling immediately. He told me I was his best friend, asked me to be his wife and we embraced as it started pouring rain. Little did I know, his friend Alex had been following us up the mountain to take pictures for us! Truly the most selfless and nicest thing ever!! After lots of pics and crying and laughing we ventured down the mountain to meet both our families who had set up an engagment picnic for us in a pavilion. We all bonded and they blessed our engagement and it was the most perfect day. Oh- not to mention- Grant graduated immediately afterward and I got to cheer on my fiance!!
