A: "I think we met in elementary school. Mckayla and I rode the same bus to school and lived less than 5 miles away. I vaguely remember classmates called her "breakfast" because it was similar to Brefka. She sounded funny but we never had the same teacher, so our star-crossed love had to wait... In high school, we didn't "meet" until senior year. In our physics class, a random seating chart ended up with Mckayla sitting in front of me. After a mutual friend introduced us (my groomsman, Max), I was hooked. One Friday afternoon, I went to the trampoline park where Mckayla worked thinking we were just friends, but I left with a major crush on my future wife. Love at first sight sounded too cliché for a then seventeen year old Mckayla, but I was already planning this wedding. Halloween 2015 rolled around and I knew Mckayla was dressed up as Minnie Mouse. I invited her over to watch spooky movies. Last minute, my mom helped me throw together a Mickey Mouse costume to match her. I guess it worked because she agreed to be my girlfriend a few days later. Mckayla ended up choosing The University of Albany and I chose The University at Buffalo. After a year of college at different ends of the state, everyone knew that we couldn't be separated any longer. Mckayla transferred to Buffalo and the rest is history."
A: "The plan was simple, I was going to bring Mckayla to one of our favorite places and finally ask her to be my wife. The morning of November 5th, we had to drive all the way from our new home in Rochester to Lake Placid, NY. Mckayla, being the sensible half of our relationship, tried multiple times to convince me to explore WNY with her. I wouldn't budge. We set out on our road trip and dropped our dog, Emmitt, off with my parents. Waiting for us was the beautiful Fall scenery, dinner at a local favorite, and the photographer hiding to snap the moment I dropped to one knee. "Mckayla Lucy Brefka, I have loved you since our first date on Halloween in 2015, and I'll never stop loving you. You continue to be the most caring, thoughtful, selfless, and beautiful woman that I have ever met... No matter what life throws at us, I would not want to figure it out with anyone else by my side. I'm incredibly blessed to call you mine and I would be lucky to call you my wife. Will you marry me?" Mckayla said yes and made me the luckiest man on Earth."
A: "Mckayla and I graduated from UB right in the middle of the pandemic in May of 2020. We both started our careers in Albany, and in our first year there we purchased our first home together. By this time our family had grown two cats and a golden doodle larger! (Aspen, Theo, and Emmitt). In the Spring of 2022, I was offered a job in Rochester and after much thought and discussion we decided to make the move. We've been working on our new home since we moved in, making it our own, and adding a third cat, Sully. After settling in and taking care of the big ticket items in the new house, I felt it was the right time to ask Mckayla to be my wife. Now we're planning a wedding and working on the house, so things have been a little crazy! It's exciting and all I've ever wanted. We can't wait to celebrate with all of you."
