We are overjoyed by the love and support we felt on Saturday. Thank you to everyone that came out to celebrate with us. Love, Sarah & David
We are having an intimate ceremony on May 5, 2018, in Richmond, Virginia. We are looking forward to celebrating with our northern families and friends in July. See the events page for more details.
The adventure that began four years prior to their wedding (almost to the day!) is a story of connection, friendship, and love spanning distance and time. It began online in May 2014. After studying each other's profiles, they both swiped right and the first connection was made. David was living in southern Utah at the time, but happened to be in Williamsburg, Virginia preparing to lead a bicycle tour across the United States. Sarah was in Richmond planning her summer adventures. Sarah was intrigued and curious to hear more about the bike trip, and David was thankful for an outlet to share his frustrations and triumphs. After several interesting and meaningful exchanges, they knew they were going to stay in touch for the summer. Despite riding away from the east coast, they grew closer together over the next three months, and found they had become great friends. Even before David finally dipped his wheel in the Pacific Ocean, they agreed that they needed to meet face to face. Soon after the bicycle trip, David was scheduled to fly from Utah to Atlanta for a conference. David suggested, "Since I'll be on that side of country, why don't I just slip on up to Richmond?" Sarah skipped through the terminal as she picked him up from the Richmond airport and David's heart skipped a beat when he saw her beautiful, smiling face. They hit it off immediately and by the end of that trip had begun one of their favorite pastimes: making lists of places to go and things to do. Sarah made the next trip to visit David in Utah. It was the furthest west she had ever been, and the landscape was foreign and fascinating. They hiked the north rim of the Grand Canyon and in Zion National Park. He learned that she was a great travel partner and she learned that he could cook. They made their relationship official at the bottom of Jump Up Canyon, Arizona when David asked, "Would you like to be my girlfriend?"
The distance in their relationship was lessened by the adventures that followed in 2015: San Diego, Las Vegas, Coyote Gulch, and Water Canyon. They hiked, rappelled, star gazed, and camped, until they decided that David would move to Richmond. He sold his camper and motorcycle, packed up his truck and trailer, and headed east so they could try dating in the same city. Since then, Sarah's daughter, Ryan, has moved to Norfolk to attend Old Dominion University, they renovated Sarah's tiny house, and David started graduate school at VCU. And on September 22, 2017, David knelt down on one knee and asked his best friend to marry him. She said yes!
