Hayley and Matt met at Flinders Christian Community College in Year 7, when Matt was the new kid on the block! Matt was immediately welcomed with open arms by the boys and was renowned for his competitive style of basketball. Having a year level with only about 40 people, this saw Matt and Hayley inevitably spend a lot of time together and it wasn't long until their friendship blossomed. After what Matt would claim is *years* after his pursuit begun, they finally made things official in 2013.
In April 2022, Hayley and Matt decided to venture West and explore the iconic El Questro Wilderness Park. Upon arrival, Matt seemed abnormally stressed when he saw a sunset spot, they had planned on scoping out was closed due to fires and tracks still being flooded from the wet season. Hayley reassured Matt that there were other spots they could go to and that's just the gamble you take travelling up North in April! He agreed, and on their first night they headed up to Saddleback Ridge Lookout. They arrived at Saddleback Ridge early to snap a prime position and Matt willingly got Hayley out her chair so she could relax and read. Little did Hayley know; Matts elaborate plan was already in motion. Knowing Hayley would be distracted, Matt quietly and carefully managed to pull out a champagne bottle and glasses to put in the fridge and removed the ring from the tool area (he knew H would NEVER look there!) While H and Matt were enjoying the sunset, all of a sudden, they saw cars coming up the hill. Matt quickly said, "let's go to the lookout so we get a better view of the sunset." Hayley quickly obliged and upon standing on the lookout, saw that Matt was shaking and acting strangely. It wasn't until Hayley saw a square shaped box in Matt's pocket that she realised what was happening. Upon seeing this, Matt quickly dropped to his knee, and for the first time in his life, was rendered speechless and popped the question. After saying yes, Hayley was led back to the car where champagne was presented while they enjoyed the beautiful landscape before calling their family and friends.
