Old City has so much charm for history buffs and non-history buffs. Check out Independence Mall where the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall (where the Declaration of Independence was signed!) are located, or stroll along 2nd street to see the Betsy Ross house. Benjamin Franklin's grave can be viewed at Christ Church, where presidents George Washington and John Adams were early members. Explore different art galleries or walk around local shops on and around Market Street. Elfreth's Alley is the nation's oldest residential street and now a preserved National Historic Landmark. Old City is definitely the place to jump on a hop-on-hop-off bus if you want a tour of everything Philly! Buses with attendants are always located around Independence Mall.
Philly is definitely a foodie city. With restaurants on nearly every block, you really can't go wrong! BUT if you want a unique a la carte browsing option, check out Reading Terminal Market with local vendors from across the region that sell anything under the sun from fresh produce and Lancaster fresh meats, to the famous Beiler's donuts or DiNic's Roast Pork. Make sure you come hungry! If you stop here, take a walk around City Hall with William Penn, one of Philadelphia's most prominent landmarks. While you're at it, pop into the Macy's on 13th and Market to watch the Christmas Lights Show -- it's free to see but check the times online before you go!
Modeled after the christmas villages in Europe, come take a walk through the pop-up event that draws in local vendors from the Philadelphia area. Drink some mulled wine as you walk through the different shops selling trinkets, clothing, jewelry, ornaments, chocolate, you name it. Food and drink is available for purchase but make sure to dress warm! Everything is outside and if it's a cold day there aren't many places to go inside for heat.
