How We Met

It all started on the softball field...

A friend of Krista's played on an adult softball team 'It's Britney, Pitch' with Matt. The team needed more girls so she asked Krista to play, and low and behold...it was not love at first sight. She found this crazy group of legging wearing, colorful and positive people who welcomed her into their team, along with this guy, ahem, who thought he was playing semi-professional softball. He was nowhere on her radar until 8 months later when they spent some time together off the softball field and realized there was a connection. Spending time together was easy and playing softball became even more fun. Thanks Scout for the recruitment and Coach for making this team happen! - Krista Krista and I knew each other for about 8 months before she was unable to resist my good looks and bubbly attitude. Our first real conversation happened at Poor House Brewing Company. John was with me and we had a fun night of talking and playing shuffle board. The real moment that something happened though was at our yearly Secret Santa gathering. We talked for hours and it's there that I started to gain some interest in this person. While we had very different interests in a lot of different areas, I could start to see that we had similar world views and had some core beliefs that lined up with each other. She says she wasn't interested in me until then either, but lets be real. Those tights on the softball field will distract anyone. I know she had her eye on me. - Matthew

The Proposal(s)

Two stories

We knew this step would be a conversation to decide if we're ready. Once we had the conversation, we wanted a fun way to announce our engagement to our friends and family. So we decided to each plan a proposal for the other person by a set date and they wouldn't know when or where it was happening. After we both missed the deadline, we set a new date and put plans into action. Krista's proposal: Coach helped me plan a team practice at the softball field where we first met. He always gives a game ball to a player at the end of each game and writes a funny note on it, so I made one to give Matt. Coach started talking about giving a game ball for the practice which Matt thought was "dumb" since it was only practice, so I was really excited to give him mine. I dropped to a knee and gave him his favorite game ball yet that said "Will you be my forever teammate?" Matt's proposal: We went to our friends Rich & Joanne's who had just moved into a beautiful home an hour away from us. They were showing us around their yard when Rich gave Krista a sealed letter that looked like it had been mailed to her but was returned to sender. She opened it and read a nice long letter I wrote her (I'm not good on the spot), then when she finished I was on my knee. I gave her two candles representing each of us since she loves candles. We cried both times even when we knew it was happening. My favorite part was hearing Matt say "everyone should be proposed to." I probably didn't cry but the rest of this is true. - Matt
