Most people know that Matt and Sarah first met at work. There was light banter and a lot of missed signals for the first two years they knew the other existed. Halloween 2015: Sarah ended up at Matt's apartment along with a group of coworkers, dressed as a cat - which comes as no surprise to anyone and is also great foreshadowing. Sarah spent the majority of that evening vying for Mr. P's (Matt's cat) attention, while Matt spent it vying for Sarah's. December 2015: Matt walked into Sarah's cubicle at work and, now fully understanding her obsession with cats, asked her if she would be so kind as to care for Mr. P while he was visiting friends in Chicago for NYE. Sarah gleefully obliged, Matt gave her his key and what happened next is honestly just very cute. Matt, now knowing Sarah would soon be in his apartment, started scheming - this also comes as no surprise. He came up with a perfect plan: "I cleaned my place thoroughly, and I figured out exactly what Sarah's footsteps would be in my apartment. Above Mr. P's food bowl was a window sill, and I realized I had an opportunity to showcase my unique personality by putting little trinkets along it. The idea was that as Sarah knelt down to refill Mr. P's food, she would then stand up and her line of sight would be captured by a prized possession, my hole in one golf ball, and a wooden duck that I hand carved - I felt sure she would be instantly impressed." Much to Matt's chagrin, Sarah noticed none of this - too focused on the marshmallow shaped cat. Matt returned from his trip and shortly thereafter was their offices holiday party at the Aquarium. More light banter, and then, an agreement to head to a local bar after the party. They ended that night at Slice Works for pizza and a conversation that lasted well into the wee hours, where Sarah, now smitten, insisted they get coffee at Weathervane soon. Their first date, at Weathervane Cafe, was four hours of laughter and lavender lattes. All the rest is history.
